Subito dopo gli studi di Industrial Design ha iniziato la professione collaborando con Marco Zanuso e Richard Sapper. Ha svolto, in seguito, attività di consulenza per il Design Group Italia e ha partecipato alla Probe Industrial Design. Nel tempo ha esteso la sua attività, in collaborazione con esperti di marketing, alla realizzazione di studi di fattibilità atti a valutare la possibilità e la validità di investimenti industriali per prodotti con contenuti di design innovativi e mirati all'Utenza Ampliata.

Ha particolare interesse e competenza per le problematiche di progettazione applicate alla disabilità e all'Utenza Ampliata. La sua occupazione prevalente rimane la progettazione di beni durevoli, prodotti anche con tecnologie complesse, con interesse allo sviluppo e alla sperimentazione di sistemi innovativi. Tra i progetti sviluppati si annoverano: macchine per caffè, macchine operatrici, casalinghi, imballi speciali, mobili per ufficio, accessori per HiFi, condizionatori e depuratori d'aria, distributori automatici, strumenti biomedici, medicali e per dentisti, ausili per disabili, sistemi antifurto per auto, giocattoli, telefonia civile e industriale, autoradio, computer e sanitari, oltre ad una serie di prodotti per l'Utenza Ampliata.

E' uno dei fondatori dell'EIDD - European Institute for Design and Disability -, fondatore e primo presidente dell'IIDD - Istituto Italiano per il Design e la Disabilità -, che ha rappresentato nel Comitato Nazionale dell'ADI (di cui attualmente è Proboviro) dal 1994 al 1998.
Per tematiche relative alla progettazione per l'Utenza Ampliata ha svolto e svolge attività didattica presso il Politecnico di Milano, l'Istituto Europeo di Design, l'ISIA di Faenza e altri Istituti superiori di design. E' membro dell'AccaLab, presso il polo Didattico e di Ricerca di Crema (Università Statale di Milano).
Collabora con diverse riviste. E' stato relatore e coordinatore in occasione di congressi internazionali, oltre che membro di giurie di premi internazionali. Tra i premi ottenuti: vincitore del XIII Premio Compasso d'Oro 1984 e segnalato in altre cinque edizioni. Ha inoltre avuto segnalazioni al premio SMAU, al BIO di Lubiana e al Premio 5 Stelle di Genova.

Immediately after completing his studies in industrial design, Gianni Arduini started working with Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper. After this, he set up as a freelance consultant, working with Lorenzo Bonfanti and Gianfranco Salvemini, developing his first Inclusive Design projects with the latter. He subsequently expanded his scope, working closely with marketing experts and drawing up feasibility studies aimed at weighing up the possibility and validity of industrial investments for products with a high degree of design content and intended as Inclusive Design products.

Nevertheless, his main field of work still remains that of devising and designing consumer durables, many of which involve the application of complex technology, including an interest in developing and experimenting with systems. The range of products he has designed includes coffee machines, machine tools, kitchenware, special packaging, office furniture, hi-fi accessories, air conditioners and purifiers, automatic vending machines, biomedical, medical and dental instruments, auxiliaries for people with disabilities, anti-theft devices for cars, toys, civil and industrial telephone systems, car radios, computers and sanitary fittings, many of which he devised as products based on the principles of Inclusive Design (Progetto per l'Utenza Ampliata).

Gianni Arduini is a founder member of the Dublin-based EIDD (European Institute for Design and Disability), a founder member and the first President of its Italian national network, the IIDD (Italian Institute for Design and Disability). As President, he has represented the IIDD in the National Committee of ADI, (Italian Association for Industrial Design) from 1994 to 1998. He is currently a member of the Committee of Arbiters of ADI.
With this intense interest in the field of Inclusive Design, Arduini has lectured at Milan Polytechnic, at European Design Institute and other design-oriented schools.
He contributes to a variety of magazines, has co-ordinated and addressed several international conferences and served as a member of international design award juries. Gianni Arduini has received professional acknowledgement as a winner of the XIII edition of the Compasso d'Oro Award in 1984 and short-listing in five other editions. He has also been short-listed at the SMAU Industrial Design Award, the BIO in Ljubljana and the 5 Stelle Award in Genoa.
